The Basic Components of a Grant Proposal

There are a total of eight basic components to creating a valid and well organized grant proposal. A grant proposal contains:

  1. a summary of the proposal;
  2. the organization introduction (or yourself);
  3. a problem statement (also known as “needs assessment”);
  4. your project objectives;
  5. the project methods or design;
  6. the evaluation of the project;
  7. future funding plans; and
  8. the budget for the project.

The following sections provide a summary and tips for addressing each of these components properly in your proposal.
