I can remember a time when the tobacco industry touted the benefits of cigarettes. Did you know that smoking in 1966 prevented ulcers? That's the kind of claims being made way back then.

Big tobacco bashed the idea that smoking caused cancer or heart disease! No way they said, "Smoking is sociable".

The same conspiracy is now upon us in the food industry. Genetic modification, pesticides.. no they're not bad for you. Our kids aren't getting sick because of the food their eating! "We [big business] care about you! We really are concerned about the environment! (That's why pesticides and pollution are showing up in the water we drink and the earth we walk on.) We deeply care about the well being of our profits".. oops.. they didn't really say that!

We consumers and business leaders have a social responsibility to lead the way for a safe future for future generations.
